It was a wild Saturday in the Premier League, highlighted by AFC Bournemouth’s stunning 3-0 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford. Newcastle United also impressed away from home, shutting out Crystal Palace 2-0, while Liverpool kept pace at the top with a clean 2-0 win over Brighton. The day’s quieter affairs came from Hull City and Brentford, who played to a 1-1 draw, and a goalless stalemate between Sunderland and Leeds United that left both sides without much to celebrate.
It was a tough day for the XO Sports model, which went 1-for-5 across the slate. The lone correct call came in the Liverpool match, where the model correctly sided with the home team even though it projected a tighter 1-1 scoreline. The Bournemouth result was the biggest miss, with the model backing Manchester United at home in what turned into a blowout loss. Newcastle’s dominant road win and the Sunderland-Leeds stalemate also went against the model’s predictions, making for a humbling but honest day on the EPL slate.
