Brewers and Guardians Pull Off Upsets on Monday’s MLB Slate

Monday’s two-game MLB slate delivered a pair of upsets, with the home team splitting results in an unexpected way. The Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 at home, turning what looked like a competitive game into a decisive victory. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians did their damage on the road, rolling into Tampa Bay and topping the Rays 7-3. Both winning teams controlled the scoring and left little doubt in the final innings, making for an eventful October afternoon and evening across the league.

The XO Sports model had a rough go of it on Monday, finishing 0-2 on the day. In Milwaukee, the model favored the Dodgers with a predicted score of 4-3, but the Brewers had other plans, winning by three. The Tampa Bay matchup was even more surprising, as the model projected a Rays win at 4-3 while the Guardians dominated with seven runs. Neither game had a top pick designation, but the misses were notable, particularly in Tampa where the model held a 64% confidence level behind a pick that did not pan out.
